Antonin Kratochvil: In America
Antonin Kratochvil: In America
The Half King
505 W 23RD ST
New York, NY
Curated by Song Chong
Opening: April 7 at 7:30 pm
Famed photographer Antonin Kratochvil has partnered with WHY and The Half King
for the exhibition "In America." Through his photographs, Kratochvil
illustrates the everyday life and experiences of people living in
America, including the forgotten faces of the country's poor,
oppressed, and hungry.
All proceeds from the sale of these
and related prints will fund the upcoming photojournalism project,
"Living on a Shoestring," which aims to tell the stories of the working
poor — Americans who are employed, energetic and motivated, but still
struggle to make ends meet. By documenting the plight of these
Americans through photography, Kratochvil and WHY hope to raise
awareness of their struggles among a larger audience and in doing so,
to increase the amount of public and private resources available to
this population and the community organizations that are helping them.
The event will include a lecture and slide show
presentation by Kratochvil. Seating is limited and available on a first
come basis.
The online photography auction will begin April 7; please check back for further information. Click here to make a donation to the project. Please write "Antonin project" in the donation field.
