INTERNSHIP: Nutrition Intern, Greenmarket
Greenmarket, CENYC is seeking an enthusiastic nutrition student dedicated to and excited by local food and
farmers markets. 10 to 20 hours a week, mid February through May.

Greenmarket is a program of the Council on the Environment of New York City (http://www.cenyc.org).
Greenmarket's mission is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for
New Yorkers. Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family
farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.
Qualifications
A working knowledge of human nutrition, and an understanding of the importance of farmers markets in
connecting city dwellers with the people who grow, raise, and catch their food. You must be excited about
attending farmers markets in all boroughs and interacting with New Yorkers from all neighborhoods.
Proficiency in Spanish preferable. Must be available on weekends to attend markets.
Job description
This position includes both office hours and at market hours.
· Research and prepare nutrition related information for market managers to display at a variety of
neighborhood markets. All information should be easy to understand and related to the benefits of
eating fresh local foods of all types. Key topics might include benefits of freshness, unprocessed vs.
processed foods, heirloom varieties, seasonality etc. Materials produced should include flyers or fact
sheets, display boards with diagrams, illustrations or photos and simple demonstrations that can be
repeated at markets or other easily transportable materials.
· Design 3-4 at market nutrition demos and present them at various farmers markets during peak hours.
· Prepare an interactive reproducible presentation to be presented to various community groups: tenant
association meetings, WIC offices, schools, etc. that ties nutrition and healthy eating to shopping
locally at farmers markets.
· Prepare and present a 1 hour long training session for our staff covering the basics of nutrition
specifically as it relates to our mission.
