Growing Power Teams with Farm Service Agency to Provide Info Kiosk

(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN) –
Growing Power, Inc. teams with the Farm Service Agency (FSA) to provide a FSA information kiosk at the Growing Power Community Food Center. This kiosk will be the first step for farmers accessing general information about available FSA programs. This opportunity comes at a good time considering the recent signing of the 2008 National Farm Bill.

A press conference will be held on September 10, 2008 at Growing
Power’s Community Food Center located in Milwaukee to present the new kiosk.

“Growing Power is proud to be hosting the first kiosk of this kind in the nation. It is our mission to provide valuable resources to traditionally underserved communities, in particular immigrant, African-American, Latino, Asian, and Native American farmers,” said Will Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Growing Power. Indeed, as a multicultural organization, Growing Power is a national leader in working with all communities and building bridges between the non-profit sector and the USDA. “The location of the kiosk at the Growing Power Community Food Center will have a great impact for small and limited-resource farmers who find the environment at Growing Power culturally friendly, inviting, and accessible,” added Allen. Certainly with over 5,000 visitors a year, many of whom are farmers, Growing Power is positioned to provide this additional service to the public.

“This partnership will provide information about the Farm Service Agency to people who may not be familiar with us or the programs available to them,” said Ben Brancel, Wisconsin FSA State Executive
Director. “This is a great opportunity not only for Growing Power, but for the Farm Service Agency.”

Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in all communities. Growing Power implements this mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market, and distribute food in a sustainable manner.

The FSA is a nationwide agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that equitably serves all farmers, ranchers, and agricultural partners through the delivery of effective, efficient agricultural programs for all Americans. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of the agricultural industry and to help farmers adjust production to meet demand. FSA offices are located throughout the state of Wisconsin.
