We, The World,
in association with the Communications
Coordination Committee for the United Nations
and the New York Academy of Sciences,
is excited to announce the Sunday July 26th launch of GreenWorks NYC
- a series of Green Economy and Workforce Development Forums that
will include conferences, job fairs, education sector roundtables and
business seminars aimed at equipping New Yorkers and others with the
knowledge and skills to launch and manage Sustainable Enterprises.
GreenWorks NYC
brings together social entrepreneurs, government leaders and concerned
communities to take on the current enormous economic and environmental
challenges and shape innovative solutions through dedication and teamwork.

For us to maximize the vitality of this movement, thoughtful leaders
from every discipline will need to engage in coordinated action with the
support of an informed and involved public. To accomplish this, GreenWorks NYC features:
- A Green Business Expo & Job Fair with Exhibitors from sustainability-conscious
New York Metro Area companies and non-profits
- Emerging Green Economy roundtables including: Education Sector, Energy Transition
Initiatives, Local-to-Global Social Change Coordination
- Presentations by the Apollo Alliance and other organizations
on making the transition to a thriving green economy in NYC and elsewhere
- Business seminar presentations by a variety of social entrepreneurs
- NYC Councilman Alan J. Gerson on how the NYC government
can work with Community Based Initiatives and local businesses to
achieve both economic and environmental sustainability
- A presentation of global perspectives reflected by "The Green
Jobs Report" prepared in consultation with the International Labor
Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation, and the
United Nations Environmental Programme
- Opening, closing and intermission musical and other artistic presentations
on environmental themes
- Videotaping/Webcasting to greatly increase the number of viewers/participants
and allow communities in other cities to participate and replicate
this format to address their own local needs

About the Venue
The New York Academy of Sciences Conference Center
is located in one of the greenest buildings in New York City, 7 World
Trade Center. Completed in 2006, is the first commercial office building
in New York City to receive the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, where it won
a Gold rating.
Not only does the Academy have a green space, they have established
a set of green meeting standards to reduce the carbon-footprint of all
