The Site Review Consultant will work in the community with emergency food providers receiving funding from United Way of NYC (UWNYC) to perform administrative, food safety, and nutrition related evaluations of the program. This is a part time position requiring at least 10-15 hours per month with flexible hours (some weekends and evenings required), starting mid to late October 2009 through late April 2010. Continued work may be available after July 1, 2010.

The Food Policy Strategist performs an essential role at WSCAH by insuring that food received by customers at our pantry is of the highest quality: fresh, healthy, sanitary and appealing. The Food Policy Strategist leads a team of employees and volunteers toward the goal of assisting our customers lead healthy lives. The Food Policy Strategist also takes a leading role in WSCAH’s advocacy for change.
Hours: Monday to Friday, flexible 35 hour work week between 7am and 7pm., occasional weekend hours.
Supervised by Executive Director
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 depending on experience
Responsibilities
Food Management
Supervise food pantry staff & volunteers
Monitor food selection for food pantry so that customers always receive healthy and balanced groceries
Monitor pantry sanitation and storage standards

In this full-time position, the nutrition policy associate will advocate strong nutrition promotion and obesity prevention policies, programs, and funding through national, state and local lobbying, grassroots organizing, and coalition building. Key to this position is the ability to persuasively present the facts to policy makers and consumers. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills with the ability to conduct policy research and draft reports, correspondence, fact sheets and website materials, as well as strong public speaking ability.
